“Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood,
and sin as if with cart ropes; 19 Who say, ‘Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it; and let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come to pass, that we may know it!’ 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight! 22 Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant men in mixing strong drink, 23 who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!” Isaiah 5:18-23 NASB

Just sounds a lot like the corrupt politicians who are currently in power. The tragedy for them is that there is a pay-day some day and they will be held accountable for their sins by the Righteous Judge. There are even some preachers and professing Christians who do the same by justifying evil and criticizing those who seek to do what is right and biblical. No one gets away with this kind of behavior. Just look at the train wrecks of both politicians of the past and those calling themselves Christians as well. God desires to save them from their evil lifestyles IF they are willing to forsake this and live lives that honor God. Obedience is a rare words used today from most pulpits of this country. So is the word repentance and accountability. God has not changed, we have. The most blessed people on earth are those who have found forgiveness and eternal life. Here is where the rub comes for many believers today. Will we live a life of obedience to God’s commands or will we let pride and selfishness rule your life?

“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve …. but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” This is a familiar passage of Scripture but a reality for all who claim the name of Christ. Another verse says,”Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”

Joshua 24:15; 1 Corinthians6:19-20 NASB (emphasis added)

This is a very serious subject and one that must be thought out thoroughly and by our will, choose which way we will live. I have to do the same daily. I choose to do it God’s way for there is where I find forgiveness, peace and joy.

“When the righteous increase (rule), the people rejoice, but when the wicked man rules, people groan.” Proverbs 29:2

“The righteous is concerned for he rights of the poor, the wicked does not understand such concern.” Proverbs 29:7

“When the wicked increase, transgression increases; but the righteous will see their fall.” Proverbs 29:16

(all verses from the NASB)

The last verse is especially interesting. World history proves this proverb true. Just think about the evil rulers who came to power over a nation and the point is made clear. Go back into history to Caligula, Nero, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Ivan the Terrible, Tomas de Torquemada (instigator of the Inquisition), Maximilien Robespierre, Mussolini, Mao Zedong, Adolph Hitler, Emperor Hirohito, Joseph Stalin, Idi Amin, Ho Chi Minh, Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein just to name a few of the best known and despised. (Not necessarily in historical order)

How long did their reigns of terror last? The thousand-year Reich of Hitler lasted about eleven years. They all met painful ends. Some died in power, others were usurped from power, some committed suicide, some were put to death etc.

Did they get away with their reign of terror? Not according to the Bible. They will all stand before Jesus Christ at the Great White Throne Judgment and be cast alive into the Lake of Fire for all eternity. This is not the first thought of those who were brutalized, murdered, raped, mutilated, beheaded and other heinous crimes against those they claimed to rule. When the righteous rule the people rejoice. There have been many righteous rulers in history and are well-remembered for their goodness. The memory of the evil rulers still remains, but there is no fondness of memory when their names come up. There will be other wicked rulers in the future, especially during the last days of earth’s history. They too will be cast into the Lake of Fire in the end.

Seems to me, it would be better for these folks to consider the consequences of their choices before they engage in evil. If we would realize that there are only two destinations for all people when we die. Heaven or Hell (the Lake of Fire) are the only options. Being righteous means that we have made Jesus Christ the Savior and Lord of our lives. Having our name written in the Book of Life is the only Who’s Who with which to be concerned. Wealth, fame, power or poverty, for that matter, matter not. The choice of what we do with Jesus Christ makes all the difference. Take a close read of the book of Romans or the Gospel of John to have this made clear. Your eternal destination is a personal choice. Remember, God sends NO ONE to Hell, we CHOOSE to go there. Choose wisely!

“29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions? Who has complaining?
Who has wounds without cause?
Who has redness of eyes?
30 Those who linger long over wine,
those who go to taste mixed wine.
31 Do not look on the wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
when it goes down smoothly;
32 at the last it bites like a serpent
and stings like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange things
and your mind will utter perverse things.
34 And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea,
or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.
35 ‘They struck me, but I did not become ill;
they beat me, but I did not know it.
When shall I awake?
I will seek another drink.’ ” Proverbs 23:29-35 NASB

Oh how obsessed this generation is with alcohol. I see many professing Christians’ photos on Facebook and many show them drinking alcohol. Why such a fascination with this stuff? Does it make you feel COOL? In the groove? With it? I have been a tee totaler for forty years now. The night I got saved, I went home and dumped it all in the trash and have not desired it at all since. I am not singing my own praises, I am thankful that the Lord took this devil’s brew from me and any desire for it. Just look at the lives that are destroyed each year by it. The booze companies have the audacity to put in their ads, “Please drink responsibly.” There are a very few who do so and when a crisis hits their life, many get drunk and wake up to even worse circumstances, even in jail or facing vehicular man slaughter charges. Did you know that a hang over is the sign that brain cells have been killed? Some think, proudly, that they have many to spare, considering their great intellect. But, have you ever met a clear thinking alcoholic? I have not to date.

Here in Texas, we have almost 3,000 traffic deaths so far this year and many are attributed to drinking. Two teen girls lay in their graves here because of drunk driving and many more do so here locally.

Enough said! This stuff is unnecessary in the Christian’s life. The Scripture is clear, “And do not get drunk with wine, for this is dissipation (wastefulness), but be filled with the Spirit…” Ephesians 5:18 NASB Don’t waste your money or your life with alcohol. Like this Proverb says, “At the last it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper.” v 32 No intelligent believer plays with deadly snakes. Nor should they get enamored with alcohol.

Love you all.

“26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.” Romans 1:26-27 NASB

Now, I try to be a patient man in life, but when I read of stories like the one about the recent meeting of the Southern Baptists to discuss the issue of homosexuality and homosexual marriage and the outcome of the meeting, I become righteously indignant to say the least. Let me quote from the Wall Street Journal article about this gathering.

“It closed with a pastor saying. ‘no one goes to hell for being homosexual,’ but he added Christians must remind gay friends and family members that “the day of judgment is coming.”

Talk about a classic oxymoron!!!! He is saying two exactly opposite things out of the same mouth. If they do not go to Hell, then why do we need to talk to them about judgment day? WOW!!!

What really gets to me is when the argument comes up that the Greek text does not speak of just homosexual relationships but molestation of children. NOW THIS IS INSANE. Anyone who really knows the Greek New Testament could refute this argument easily. The problem is that most pastors put their Greek textbooks on the library shelf when the class is done and have not looked at them since graduating. This leaves them vulnerable to “every wind of doctrine,” as the Apostle Paul warns of in Ephesians 4. Note the fuller context as follows.

“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what each joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love (agape).” (emphasis added) Ephesians 4:11-17 NASB

Mr. Mohler, head of the theological seminary, met with Matthew Vines, an openly gay Christian author who argues that the Bible doesn’t prohibit lifelong same-sex marriage. You see, here is an example of what I am saying. It is sad to be so deceived! You see, when we look at the Greek text of Romans 1:26-27, it is clear that it does not deal with exceptions. It says, men with men committing indecent/shameless acts. This is homosexual sex period! The Bible is clear that God considers this an abomination. So, how can man try to sanitize that which is an abomination to God as acceptable to Him?

You see, the Apostle Paul laid down a formula for a healthy, growing and knowledgeable body, His church. Pastors who preach little homilies for just a few minutes, avoiding anything that might offend the listeners WILL NEVER grow a church that is honoring to God! They will also pay more attention to what is culturally acceptable while ignoring what is biblically solid. Oh how we need more pastors who will have the guts and backbone to tell people the truth, the whole truth and nothing else but the truth so help them God. Being popular with the congregation is NOT why God called, equipped you and placed you where you are. Pastors are there to glorify God and to teach the truth to the church. I know some who do and I greatly honor such men.

One group attending was called, “The Gay Christian Network.” These folk are sadly blinded by the evil one into believing that their lifestyle does not matter to God. It does!

I once had the occasion to speak to a homosexual man who had just been thrown out of his partner’s house. He asked me to buy him a meal and this was at a hospital where I was making a visit. I told him to wait till after my visit and I would not only buy him lunch but that I would love to talk to him as well. We made small talk for a while and then he brought the conversation around to spiritual things. He then told me that he was a Christian. I then had a huge decision to make. Would I speak the truth to him in love or would I gloss over this in order to not hurt his feelings. I said, I don’t want to be hurtful to you, but the Bible says that for you to live in this lifestyle makes it impossible for you to be a Christian. He looked up at me and said, “You know, I have always doubted that I could be a Christian and live this way.” WOW! You see, he already had serious doubts since the Holy Spirit was convicting his heart all along. I went on to share the plan of salvation with him and we parted ways.

Pastors, we have a God-given obligation to tell people the truth in love. If we do not we are soothing their souls into Hell. God will hold us accountable for what we do. A further example of this, “just say what FEELS right,” is in the following quote.

“What if you get invited to a same-sex wedding ceremony? Russell Moore, President of the S.B.C.’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, was asked. “In that case, I would not attend the wedding. I would attend the reception,” he said. In that way, he said, a Baptist could say, “I love you and I’m here with you. I disagree with you, but I love you.”

First of all, it is not about being a Baptist, it is about being a Christian. As to his comment, wouldn’t that be the same thing? If seen at the reception, wouldn’t your presence be saying to others there that you are approving of the whole event?

Well, this is a lot to digest so I will put a period at the end and say, I hope that you will take a long hard look at what is real, biblical and how this lines up with how the world had twisted Scripture and how this has changed your beliefs on this issue. May God guide your examination.
