The Bible is filled with passages about the love and goodness of God but it also contains passages when His anger and wrath are set loose on sinners. Most people today seem to think of God as a Good Old Boy who will never punish anyone for anything. This old world will come to an end one day, sooner than we might think, and the world has never known the wrath of God in the way it will experience it in His final judgment. Here is an Old Testament passage and then I will quote a New Testament one as well. “Wail, for the day of the Lord is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore all hands will fall limp, and every man’s heart will melt. They will be terrified, pains and anguish will take hold of them; they will writhe like a woman in labor, they will look at one another in astonishment, their faces aflame. Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, cruel, with fury and burning anger, to make the land a desolation; and He will exterminate its sinners from it. For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not flash forth their light; the sun will be dark when it rises and the moon will not shed its light. Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud and abase the haughtiness of the ruthless. I will make mortal man scarcer than pure gold and mankind than the gold of Ophir. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place at the fury of the Lord of hosts in the day of His burning anger. And it will be that like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, they will each turn to his own people, and each one flee to his own land. Anyone who is found will be thrust through, and anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.”  Isaiah 13:6-15

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”  1 Corinthians 6:9-11

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:11-15

“But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”  Revelation 21:8

There is a very misunderstood truth that I must mention here. God sends NO ONE to Hell, they must volunteer to go! God sent His Son Jesus to bear the penalty for mankind’s sins so that man could avoid His judgment and wrath, but many people thumb their noses at Him and ignore His offer of forgiveness. They have the free will to choose their eternal home while they live in this life. There is NO second chance after death, NO praying people out of Purgatory, no baptism for the dead sinners as some religions teach. The Bible is totally devoid of any such teaching. You must make your choice NOW in this life. The only choice that saves from sin and Hell is to make Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of your life and then live a life of obedience to His word. No one can earn salvation by doing good works; the work was done by Jesus on the cross. When He cried out, “It is finished,” (John 19:30) the sins of the world had been paid for. He left only one sin that He did not and could not die for, the sin of unbelief or refusal of His forgiveness. This remains man’s choice and one that all people make, one way or the other.

Most Christian pastors have cobwebs in their Bibles today because they have neglected sermons on God’s wrath and judgment. This is a great tragedy and travesty since we must understand both sides of God’s personality. Did you know that Jesus preached more about Hell than He did about Heaven? This indicates just how important it was for Him to let mankind know that sin has horrid consequences and will be judged if people do not repent of, turn away from, sin. Hetero or homosexuals will be judged for any and all sexual sins and no amount of government intervention can stay the hand of God. Legalizing sin has no effect on God as He is the ultimate law giver and will have the last word. It is far more critical to do what pleases Him than to try and please mankind. Liars, thieves, murderers and others that are listed in Scripture are in His crosshairs and only they can remove themselves from these crosshairs by choosing to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ. Read it for yourself in the Gospel of John and the book of Romans, and then you will understand it clearly.

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”         Proverbs 14:34
