Frank Gaffney seems to think that President Bush’s trip to the Middle East is similar to Mad Magazine. I could not disagree more. What President Bush is trying to accomplish is to finally settle the issue of a Palestinian state along side of an Israeli state. I have studied the Bible for over thirty years now and have held a belief over the past few years that something like this coming agreement, if it is made, could signal the dividing of the place called Temple Mount. The Muslims now control the mount but the Bible clearly prophesies that the Temple of Israel will be rebuilt in the last days. The Bible refers to a covenant that would be made with Israel under an “uneasy peace” and any agreement with Palestine will be just that since their ultimate goal is to shove Israel into the Mediterranean Sea. This could see Temple Mount divided in the middle between the two parties. The latest archaeological work in that area has determined that the open space on the mount was more where the original temple stood and that it faced directly out the Eastern Gate. Wouldn’t it be a gas to see this agreement restore Israel’s right to Temple Mount and the rebuilding of the LAST temple in history? This one might just be the one to keep a close eye and ear on. Bible prophesy could be fulfilled right in front of our eyes. I believe that it was in the year 2002 that an attempt was made to lay the cornerstone for the new temple with much bloodshed. This time it might be laid in peace. The Temple Institute stands ready with most of what would be needed to begin worship again in the temple. Check it out on the internet. I have visited it three times and it is fascinating!

The Lord brought this article to my mind in a flash as I viewed a video on scientists who have grown a rat heart from rat heart cells. I just had to remind folks about Who it was who created the first rat. I published this on yesterday. Today, I discovered information on Ben Stein’s new movie, ”EXPELLED.” Check it out on line and watch the trailer. It is going to be one of the most controversial films released in years since it deals with intelligent design and the battle against the castle of Darwinism. This is a MUST SEE movie for every person alive!

I just viewed a video in which scientists have taken rat heart tissues and they developed into a beating heart. They seem to think that they have done something phenomenal and it seems to indicate that they think that they actually “created” something. What they have discovered is what God put into place “In the beginning.” God said many times in Genesis that each thing He created would reproduce “after its kind” and we find it so in real life. Apples do not produce oranges but more apples, rat heart tissues reproduce little rat hearts if allowed to do their thing, which these scientists seem to have allowed them to do. If these scientists really want to do something phenomenal let them start with NOTHING and then make the first rat heart cell on their own. Well, we all know the outcome of this. They will get nothing from nothing. I would hope that the scientists would simply acknowledge that the Master Creator built into each type of cell the ability to reproduce itself as occurs daily in all living things. It seems, at first blush, that this could end up being a good thing for folks who need new organs, but let’s not forget who created the first organs “In the beginning.” Scripture says, “And God said, let there be…” and it was.

This matches what we know scientifically that under irreducible minimum conditions, the cell could never have evolved. This goes for many creatures that scientists admit have not changed in all of earth’s history, such as the Horseshoe Crab etc. We find creatures in deep strata that match perfectly with what we see today. When we look at the FACTS we can see that all things had a sudden beginning and are still working as designed today. You gotta love it!
Something to ponder for sure.

I just finished reading “Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret” for the second or third time. It is the story of a man who lived over a century ago and tells of how one unselfish believer set out to take the gospel to multiplied millions in China who were without the good news of Jesus. The following is an excerpt from the closing page. These words were written by Hudson Taylor’s son after his father’s death stating what was at the core of the man behind Inland China Mission.

“The hardest part of a missionary career, Mr. Taylor found, is to maintain regular, prayerful Bible study. ‘Satan will always find you something to do,’ he would say, ‘when you ought to be occupied about that, if it is only arranging a window blind.’ Fully would he have endorsed the weighty words:

‘Take time. Give God time to reveal Himself to you. Give yourself time to be silent and quiet before Him, waiting to receive, through the Spirit, the assurance of His presence with you, His power working in you. Take time to read His Word as in His presence, that from it you may know what He asks of you and what He promises you. Let the Word create around you, create within you a holy atmosphere, a holy heavenly light, in which your soul will be refreshed and strengthened for the work of daily life.’

It was just because he did this that Hudson Taylor’s life was full of joy and power, by the grace of God. When over seventy years of age he paused, Bible in hand, as he crossed the sitting room in Lausanne and said to one of his children: ‘I have just finished reading the Bible through, today, for the fortieth time in forty years.’ And he not only read it, he lived it.

Hudson Taylor stopped at no sacrifice in following Christ. ‘Cross-loving men are needed,’ he wrote in the midst of his labours in China, and if he could speak to us today would it not be to call us to that highest of all ambitions: ‘that I may know him (the One we, too supremely love), and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings.’ Can we not hear again the tones of his quiet voice as he says:

There is a needs-be for us to give ourselves for the life of the world. An easy, non-self-denying life will never be one of power. Fruit-bearing involves cross-bearing. There are not two Christs – an easy-going one for easy-going Christians, and a suffering, toiling one for exceptional believers. There is only one Christ. Are you willing to abide in Him, and thus to bear much fruit?”

Taylor was born in 1832 and died in 1905. In the years of his work in China the number of missionaries went from himself to 750. By 1932 they numbered 1,285. The converts numbered 12,000 during his life and from 1900, when he gave up the leadership role of the mission, to 1932 they numbered 100,000. The mission received over $4,000,000 in his lifetime and from 1900 to 1932, over 20,000,000 have been received without ever asking for money except for asking God. He abundantly supplied their every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

On page 67 a Chinese convert asked him a question that set his soul on fire even more than during his years already spent in China. He was asked, “How long have you had the Glad Tidings in your country?” “Some hundreds of years,” was the reluctant reply. “My father sought the Truth,” he continued sadly, “and died without finding it. Oh why did you not come sooner?”

This is a question that is still being asked by people in countries all over the earth. Billions still sit in darkness when Americans have had the Glad Tidings for hundreds of years.

My challenge is for each of you to get an old copy of “Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret” by Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor and read it slowly and carefully. It is a book that will change your life … guaranteed! Pastor Ike

“We talk of the second coming; half the world has never heard of the first.”

-Oswald J. Smith

I have had the awesome privilege of traveling around the world on mission trips. I have twice been in Uganda, Africa, once to the Philippines, once to the islands of Columbia and once to Macau, China. This morning I sat and reminisced over that trip to China as I read from the pages of one of my all time favorite books, The Spiritual Secret of Hudson Taylor published in 1949. J. Hudson Taylor was one of the truly successful missionaries of all time. (I avoided calling him a ‘great’ or ‘awesome’ missionary as no man is great or awesome, only God. We use these terms far too loosely in dealing with our fellow man.) At seventeen years old, he gave his life to Christ while browsing through one of his father’s books. Not long after this he felt the strong call to go to China to take the ‘Glad Tidings’ to those who had never heard. One of the greatest quotes in the book comes from a conversation he had with a Chinese man. The man had asked him how long his people had had this good news. Taylor hesitatingly answered that his people had had the good news for many centuries. At this the man replied that his old father had died not long ago longing for something that he never found. The man asked Taylor, “What took you so long?”

That question has haunted my mind ever since my first reading of this great book. (I urgently ask that you get the oldest copy of this book and read it for yourself. I say the oldest as I have found so many of the old classics rewritten in modern terms and have in my opinion been ruined.)

What took you so long?” is the question being asked in India, Sri Lanka, the Middle Eastern countries and a multitude of nations around this world. Places where so many millions have never heard the Good News. I remember a quote I read many years ago. “No one should hear the Gospel twice until everyone has heard it once.” (Author unknown) It has weighed so heavily on my mind lately as pastors preach to congregations week after week the message of salvation to people who have heard it possibly thousands of times. It is tragic how many times we have heard the story and yet remain unmoved by it to even take it next door. Rev. Charles Finney of the Second Great Awakening in America has labeled those who hear the good news over and over and yet not receive the gift of salvation or take its message to those around us as “Gospel Hardened.” For thirty-one years I poured out my soul preaching this Good News to see but a hand full take that flaming message to others. The sad statistics are that between one and three percent of professing Christians ever win another person to Christ in their lifetime. If the Good News is as great as we say we believe it is, (and it certainly is) then why do we keep it to ourselves? The singer Keith Green sang one of the most powerful songs ever written about this issue. It is called Asleep In The Light and is still available in Bible book stores under the CD’s containing his music. One of the lines is haunting. He says, “Jesus rose from the dead, and you – you can’t even get out of the bed.” Selfishness manifests itself with the words, “I don’t know and I don’t care.” Again, words like these and those spoken by the Chinese man haunt my mind and remind me of the urgency of world evangelization. The Great Commission appears five times in the Gospels and Acts. Anything that is repeated in Scripture speaks of the

effect on the people. They too have become with urgency from the heart of God. It is ultimately important to God and it is not a suggestion but a command to all His followers, you and me. Evangelization of the world is in fact the only reason Jesus died on the cross. He did not die to make us financially prosperous, give us a life of comfort and convenience or set a plan in motion to meet all of our wants. In the end, the only thing that will matter is how many of the earth‘s population will spend eternity in heaven because of our lives on earth. (What if Christians cleaned out their storage lockers and sold all the stuff (that they can’t live without) how much money could be given to mission work? What if Christians paid off their credit cards and gave the money they paid in interest to missions how many millions/billions would be available to spread the Good News?) Far too much of Christian television is missing a huge opportunity to do just that but all often it wastes air time with people just sitting around talking about some vision they had or how to get rid of our bunions and sag lines. The ‘Name It and Claim It’ gospel has spread to every mission land that I have ever visited with a disastrous obsessed getting more money and becoming famous like their TV role models.

“… who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.” (translated: for the sake of making a buck) Titus 1:11

Why do Christians just ignore it when one of these ‘preachers’ is exposes and forced out of circulation. It seems to me that Christian television producers would do a better job of screening those they allow to be on their channels.

In the jungle of Africa I heard a preacher casting demons out of Christians, which is an impossibility! God help the people who turn the Gospel into a money making scheme to fleece the people who sit on their blessed assurances and waste the day watching TV rather than telling others about what they have found themselves. Someone has appropriately called this “Consumer Christianity.” The ME generation has tragically affected the Christian church today with a devastating effect on evangelism. As a for instance, how many people found Christ in your church this past year? How many spent hours watching Christian TV or any TV? I once heard a black preacher say, “Get off your seat, on your feet and out in the street!” I love it! I have heard Pastor Rick Warren say, “Jesus came to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” Let’s never forget that His command is to take the Gospel to the Jew first and then to the rest of the world. This is one people group almost forgotten by mainline Christianity today. I strongly disagree with five point Calvinism which teaches that God has selected certain ones to be saved and the others cannot ever be saved. I find the words “all the world” and “every person” and “whosoever will” too often to believe this.

Note His powerful call to lead the world to know Him.

“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe (Literally ‘obey’) all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ ” Matthew 28:18-20

Beyond Hudson Taylor is a missionary not well known by many even in Christian circles. While I was in Macau, China I had the opportunity to see first hand the tombs of Robert and Mary Morrison. This man was the FIRST foreign missionary to China. He went to China in 1804. If you care to read his life’s story you can find in on and click on Morrison Collection. As I stood in the Protestant cemetery there in Macau,

China I did not realize at the time just what I was looking at. I knew bits and pieces of the story as told to me by my friend who guided me to the location. It was an extremely hot day that day and it required a long walk across the city to see the cemetery. I came so close to missing this piece of missionary history because of the effort it would take to get there. (forgetting the effort it took Mr. Morrison to get there) I am so thankful that the Lord urged me to make the trip. That cemetery is etched permanently in my memory now. I looked all around the yard and read the gravestones of many buried there. The profound thing about the stones was that the oldest person in the cemetery, that I found, was forty-three years old. Many were in their twenties and thirties. I was awe struck at how taking the Good News to that distant land meant a one way trip for everyone buried there. Talk about ultimate sacrifice! When Hudson Taylor left his home in England he said ‘goodbye’ to his loved ones not knowing if he would see their faces this side of heaven.

I say all this to remind us of our soft, comfortable life we live in these United States of America. The vast majority of us will not even inconvenience ourselves to speak to our neighbors about Christ much less travel five months by ship just to get to his mission station. We have grown so soft in this day, too soft to be made uncomfortable in order to tell the untold about this so great salvation. I leave you with this sobering question. “How long have your people had this good news? What took you so long to bring it to us?” How will you and I answer this question is God asks it of us? Since the Great Commission is a command to ALL of His children, he probably will ask it of each one of us. It is not to late to begin forming our answer now by “getting off our seat, on our feet and out in the street” and taking the Gospel to every person who has yet to hear this “Good News.”

“How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (There is that Jewish thing again … to Zion) Isaiah 52:7

“How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!’ ” Romans 10:15

We have all ‘been sent.’ The question is, ‘will we go?’ Pastor Ike

My soul has been deeply moved by what I read in Scripture and what I see in our government and the nation at large. If ever the passage dealing with right being wrong and wrong being right is appropriate, it is NOW.

One of my greatest frustrations as a pastor, now disabled, and a Christian at large, is the deafening silence of the Church of Jesus. It reminds me of the piece that was written during WWII titled, “Sing A Little Louder.” It dealt with a church that was located by the railroad tracks where the death camp trains passed. They could hear the moaning and cries for help from those on those trains and it really got to bothering their peace. They decided to just “sing a little louder” when the trains passed so as not to be bothered by the cries for help.

When I think of how FEW pastors, Christians and moral people of America have never lifted a finger to stop the brutal slaughter of 50,000,000 innocent babies, I also wonder if we are not just trying to drown out their screams for help. Many in our government have chosen a course of destroying as many of the unborn as possible in the name of “A Woman’s Right To Choose,” and yet this is a total lie to the women and fathers of these “unwanted” human beings. All you need to do is talk with a woman who has had an abortion, if she has any conscience at all, and hear the anguish in her soul over killing her baby. What have you personally done to stop abortion? Have you called your legislator, written letters to the appropriate people expressing your disgust with this practice? Have you ever gone to one of these killing stations and made an effort to save the life of just one baby? I have and I will never forget the folks who changed their minds and chose to give birth to their baby. I have actually dedicated one such child in our church baby dedication service. I have been cussed out by angry people who’s conscience is racked with indecision and find it easy to vent it on me. I have always done this with love and grace and firmness. I have never been struck by anyone, even though some have charged at me with the intent to intimidate me. Love wins the day in so many cases. Killing your child is the most selfish choice we can make. There are always cases where the mother’s life is in danger but many women throughout history have even given up their lives in order to give life to their babies.

Have we spoken out on letting homosexuality become a normal part of life today? Have we listened to too many talking heads on TV and ignored the clear teachings of God on this issue. How can believers condone that which is an abomination to God? Every great nation that has allowed homosexuality to become normalized have suffered collapse because of it. How many of us would be horrified if one of our children was molested? Yet, 40% of all molestations are done by homosexuals when only 0.8%, less than 1%, of American citizens call themselves homosexual according to the last census.

Our silence will ultimately bring the judgment of God on America. I have spoken to some of our finest Christian leaders on this issue and they agree wholeheartedly. All we have to do is to look at Israel and the cycles of faith to apostasy to slavery to repentance to faith etc. etc. throughout the Old Covenant of the Bible.

What will it take for US to say, “Enough Is Enough?” God will hold each of us accountable for our lack of getting involved. He did not save us so that we could make money and collect every material comfort available so that we can be more “served” and made “comfortable”, when millions of our Christian brothers and sisters around the world go without basic necessities. The Bible asks those who see this and ignore it, “how can the love of God dwell in you?”

What will it take for us to let our voices be raised in protest. When will we let the Grammy Award crew know of our disgust when a recent recipient let go with the worst slander against Jesus Christ and many of you saw this. I didn’t since I turned my TV off about six years ago and now choose to only watch videos and DVD’s that are decent for believers to watch. Many of you have bought into the lie that only “Mature” people can watch immorality and be blasted with every filthy word imaginable. Would you allow a guest in your home to do these things? Then why would you allow an open sewer pipe into your living rooms every night, and pay them to bring it in? Tolerance, according to the new definition, is not a virtue. Tolerance ends when it offends God or my loved ones and destroys the country we love so dearly.

These are a few of the things that we need to think long and hard about right now. I want to remind you that every word here is bathed in love. Love is not always mushy, gushy and fuzzy. Tough love is the most genuine love of all. God uses it every day.

“LORD, make me to know my end and what is the extent of my days; let me know how transient I am. Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah. Surely every man walks about as a phantom; surely they make an uproar for nothing; He amasses riches}and does not know who will gather them.” (Selah is a musical interlude and believed to mean, “think about this for a moment.” Psalm 39:4-6

Some thoughts on how to wisely use the few days that we have on this earth and how to be ready to stand face to face with our creator.

There Is A Payday Someday!

(I wrote this article in 2004 and now include some revisions)

Most people today live their lives like they are playing Russian Roulette. Ordinarily intelligent people do some of the most foolish and dangerous things simply out of a childish, “I did it because I wanted to!” attitude. All people know in their hearts that the Bible is true and that it is God’s absolute standard for all human beings. He did not make suggestions but gave absolute Commandments. He gave these to protect His creation from self-destruction. “You shall not commit adultery.” “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife …” Exodus 20:14, 17a “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Or can a man walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched? So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her will not go unpunished.” (not go unpunished…!) Proverbs 6:27-29

These warnings are as real as a heart attack! Why then do so many ignore God’s Commands? This next verse explains it all. “You shall have no other gods before (besides) Me.” Exodus 20:3 Man often chooses to replace his Creator with self-made gods, ones that please his life-style choices. Yet no matter how hard he tries to do it his own way, it is inevitable that God will have His way in the end. What lures a person into adultery? Here’s a mature man or woman, married, two or three children, great job, new home, car, a good marriage for __# of years. Then all of a sudden there comes a moment of temporary insanity by jumping into bed with another person you would never in a thousand years dream of marrying and building a life with, while you sacrifice this very thing at home. Here are some facts to back up these words. Only 10% of persons leaving their spouse for another person ever marry that person? That’s a 90% failure rate! Not one of us would invest in the stock market with these odds. The lure is often, “I have found that most perfect person that I have ever known!” Hog wash! You’re not in love, you’re in LUST! Try being married to this “perfect person” and see that they are just like everyone else. Note statistics on this kind of thinking: 90% failure rate.

“But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. (The word here means to bring forth a stillborn child. Sin never brings forth life or joy! ) James 1:14-15

Try dusting off your Bible and reading about the fool and the related behaviors in Proverbs chapters 5-7. Someone told me once, “Don’t ever do today what you don’t want to see in the headlines tomorrow.” Great advice! Has your sin issued a paycheck to you yet? If it hasn’t, it certainly will. I have been in ministry over thirty-one years now and I have seen far too many train wrecks in the personal lives of those I have known inside and outside the Church. What are your real values? Do they line up with how you live your daily life? We live in a sex crazed society but don’t ever believe the lie that you will somehow escape the consequences of your choices.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”

Galatians 6:7

For every one of our kicks, there’s a kickback! Is a one night stand worth losing everything that matters to you? What will your children, parents, boss, employees think of you when the dirty laundry is aired? And you can be certain that it will be aired sooner or later. Why not choose now to live your life the way God’s Book says and you will find yourself richly rewarded and fulfilled. (emphasis added to Scriptures)

It struck me the other day that all the battles concerning Political Correctness are aimed at promoting and protecting perversion. They have made up their small minds that promoting a moral America is not worth their time but seeing to it that sexual perversion is forced on the silent majority.

The Bible is still the most popular book on sale in America and represents a huge majority of American citizens. With this majority to fight, the liberals chose a strategy to shame us into shutting our mouths by a campaign of name calling and labeling. Have you noticed that we don’t call them moralophobics or godophobics? That sounds so foolish and so do homophobic, bigoted, haters etc. etc. I for one chose a long time ago to NOT try to be politically correct but to be biblically correct. They can rant and rave and call names until they are blue in the face and it is like water off a duck’s back to me. I know that I am doing what is right and pleasing to God and that is all that matters.

Bill Clinton was the champion of the immoral folks in America, especially the Hollywood crowd, and a disgrace and disgusting to those who love what is right. The Bible calls homosexuality an abomination in the eyes of God. Liberal politicians and others have decided that perversion is what is right and that God is wrong. You know that the Bible says that this will happen in the last days. Guess what, it is happening NOW! I have a few quotes to demonstrate this.

“He who speaks truth tells what is right, but a false witness deceit.”  Proverbs 12:17

“A righteous man hates falsehood, but a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully.”  Proverbs 13:5

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”  Proverbs 14:34

“The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but He loves one who pursues righteousness.”  Proverbs 15:9

“He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD. Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, when he has no sense?”  Proverbs 17:15-16

Their strategy has worked very well and millions of godly people have shut up and just mumble to themselves and their friends about how bad things are. If you would just decide that no one is going to shut you up and that your most powerful tool is your vote then the liberals would sit up and take notice.

So, are we going to speak up and vote out of office those who are slowly destroying this great nation? I for one am sick of the sewer of immorality flowing into our homes via the television. I turned mine off about six years ago and seek my information from sites like and

Christians in particular have often been dumbed down even by their own pastors. Preaching milk toast sermons is never going to make Christians strong. We need more preachers like Jonathan Edwards and his sermon, “Sinners in the hand of an angry God,” and “Payday Someday” by R. G Lee, and Charles Finney with his pulpit aflame with righteousness and hundreds like them. They saw righteousness once again aflame in America in different generations. Don’t we want that too? We are taught to “Just love them and let them have their own way. We wouldn’t want to offend anyone, you know.” It would do us all good to read about the lives of the prophets of the Old Testament and how Jesus, Paul and others dealt with opposition. Paul said these words,

Acts 13:8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

Acts 13:9 But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him,

Acts 13:10 and said, “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?”

This one is not exactly “seeker friendly” is it?

Jesus called them white washed tombs and told them that they were the sons of the Devil. Peter did not mince words in confronting those who opposed God and righteousness. There is plenty of room for love but confrontation is what is essentially needed NOW!

Here is the biblical mandate for preaching. “… preach the Word, be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires and will turn away their ears from the TRUTH and will turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4

I believe that Amos 8:11-12 is happening now in America.

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “When I send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the LORD. People will stagger from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they will go to and fro to seek the Word of the LORD, but they will not find it.”

There are still faithful preachers but far too few of them. If you have such a pastor, love him, take good care of him and encourage him to stay aflame for God. Today’s pastors might need to stop attending so many conferences and just get alone with God to find out what HE wants them to preach and do. Reading the preachers of the 17th and 18th centuries is also a good idea.

Our founding fathers would be ashamed of us if they were alive today. Let’s get some guts and backbone going and soon. Let’s let the lion out of his cage and let him roar!

Last Wednesday night we were studying the book of Proverbs and
our teacher pointed out an awesome comparison that is right there in the text
of chapter nine. It opens with wisdom calling out to the naive to turn in here
to gain godly insight so that life can be lived to please God and to gain the
greatest personal peace that can be had.

“Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven
pillars; she has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; she has also set
her table; she has sent out her maidens, she calls From the tops of the heights
of the city: ‘Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!’ To him who
lacks understanding she says, ‘Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine
I have mixed.’ “

Proverbs 9:1-5

A godly invitation to us all. Now it goes on to expand the

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and
the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be
multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you are wise
for yourself, and if you scoff, you alone will bear it.” Proverbs 9:10-12

Right in line with the flow of the text comes another
invitation to the naive and it too invites him to turn in here but this time it
is the call of alluring sin and self destruction.

“The woman of folly is boisterous, {She is} naive and
knows nothing. She sits at the doorway of her house, on a seat by the high
places of the city calling to those who pass by, who are making their paths
straight: ‘Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,’ and to him who
lacks understanding she says, ‘Stolen water is sweet; and bread {eaten}
in secret is pleasant.’ But he does not know that the dead are there,
{that} her guests are in the depths of Sheol.” Proverbs 9:13-18

Note who the target is, “ … to those who are making
their paths straight.” Like Eve, we have a choice as to which invitation
we choose to follow. One offers life and peace, the other, death and

Solomon made a real mess of his life by following the
allurements of lustful thoughts and now he warns his son to avoid such
entanglements or face the same down fall. In reality, his son made an even
bigger mess of his life than did his father and ended up dividing the nation of
Israel. This whole section, from chapter five, has served to warn the naive of
sexual sin. In chapter seven Solomon says these words.

“For at the window of my house I looked out through my
lattice, and I saw among the naive, {And} discerned among the youths a young
man lacking sense, passing through the street near her corner; and he takes the
way to her house, in the twilight, in the evening, in the middle of the night
and {in} the darkness. And behold, a woman {comes} to meet him, dressed as a
harlot and cunning of heart. She is boisterous and rebellious, her feet do not
remain at home; {She is} now in the streets, now in the squares, and lurks by
every corner. So she seizes him and kisses him and with a brazen face she says
to him: ‘I was due to offer peace offerings; today I have paid my vows.
Therefore I have come out to meet you, to seek your presence earnestly, and I
have found you. I have spread my couch with coverings, with colored linens of
Egypt. I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. Come, let us
drink our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with caresses.
For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey; he has taken a
bag of money with him, at the full moon he will come home. With her many
persuasions she entices him; with her flattering lips she seduces him. Suddenly
he follows her as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as {one in} fetters to the
discipline of a fool, until an arrow pierces through his liver; as a bird
hastens to the snare, so he does not know that it {will cost him} his life.”
Proverbs 7:6-23

What graphic words are used here, “as an ox goes to the
slaughter … so he does not know that it will cost him his life.” These
are the siren’s call of hedonism, pleasure above all else. the Playboy
perversion of sanitized pornography. The Greek word for pornography is the word
evil. It is always evil in any form. Sin always brings forth death! It never
brings forth life as it promises. James fills in the rest of the blanks for us
in the following verses.

“Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once
he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which {the Lord} has
promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am
being tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself
does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and
enticed by his own lust. When lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and
when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved
brethren.” James 7:12-16

Note the illustration of a sexual relationship and of how a
child is conceived. The most potent part of this analogy is when James says,
“ … and it brings forth death.” There could be no more human
application to the deadly effects of sin than when James says this. The Greek
indicates that this death is a still born child. This brings home the point in
a way that no one can miss. Sin always brings forth death, no matter who
promises us anything different. Righteousness brings life and peace but sin can
produce only one thing, death.

We must choose to hear the call of God every day of our lives.
To miss our time of reading the Word of God is a strategic mistake. This leaves
us open to hearing the wrong voice and friends, all it takes is one bad choice
to destroy our reputation and our very life.

It is as simple as applying the Bible to the problem. Let them marry!

Do we not have a right to take along a believing wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?”  -1 Corinthians 9:5

Cephas is Peter after all. They claim that Peter was the first pope. Even if he was,  I don’t believe that this can be proved, he was married! If the pope was married, then let the priests and nuns marry. That is, after all, the biblical thing to do.

Sometimes the answer is just laying right there in front of us. Just think of how many young lives could have been spared a lifetime of agony if the leaders had followed the simple teachings of the Bible rather than church traditions.

The homosexual molestation side of things, that is a topic for a future blog.

One day, one decision turned the life of Adolph Hitler to a new direction that the world will regret throughout history. Adolph was an artist and had great expectations of becoming an accomplished artist. I saw a documentary that dealt with his life and this was included in their comments. They showed the pictures that he had painted and I thought that they were quite good. He applied to a prestigious art school but they chose to turn him down, He was infuriated with their decision and this turned his life away from a peaceful direction to one that made him famous too. This one cost millions of people’s lives. The world would have been much better off with his art, no matter how good or bad it was.
The moral of the story is that we should be careful in making choices that affect other people’s lives.
